The Jewish community in the United States is composed predominantly of Ashkenazi Jews who emigrated from Central and Eastern Europe, and their U.S.-born descendants. Jewish Americans have a history of service to their country and have served in high-level cabinet positions, as congressmen and women, and as senators, and as Supreme Court Justices. Jewish Americans serve in the military in 1.5 times the percentage of Jews in the population.
